The Coliseum has appeared many times throughout the Fire Emblem series, though it made its debut in the first game, Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light. The Coliseum works in an all-or-nothing fashion, where the player bets both their money and their chosen unit’s life. If they defeat their opponent, they receive twice their betted money. If they lose, they forfeit both their money and their pitted unit’s life. Players can drop out of the fight, but in return they lose their wagered money.
In Smash Bros. the stage functions with mechanical platforms that move up from the ground. Each time they rise in different patterns, making them unpredictable every time. This stage can go from being a basic flat plane, to a stage with multiple and varied grounds to assail your opponents from.
